5/20/2023 0 Comments Change nvm versionA few weeks ago I started a new NodeJS based project which I’m currently developing besides my regular work. I’m using NVM for more than a year now, and it’s a big time-saver for me.īesides managing the local NodeJS installations, it also offers me the ability to quickly test any app for platform upgrades. What RVM offers for Ruby, is NVM for the JavaScript developer. I’ve been using RVM in the past to deal with the different Ruby installations on my machines. So managing all those frameworks is - again - a little bit more effort. Since the beginning of 2015, io.js may also be part of many JavaScript developer’s toolbelts. In the past developers had to manage different Node.js versions locally and switch them for every project they’re involved. Installing and Updating Install & Update Script To install or update nvm, you should run the install script. nvm works on any POSIX-compliant shell (sh, dash, ksh, zsh, bash), in particular on these platforms: unix, macOS, and windows WSL. Working on multiple JavaScript based projects can be cumbersome. nvm is a version manager for node.js, designed to be installed per-user, and invoked per-shell. So instead of explaining him the basics on a phone call, I wrote this summary, which I’d like to share with you. I wrote this short post because I saw a friend of mine doing some first steps in Node.js without having NVM installed. I can’t imagine working with Node.js based projects without NVM. Head over to Github and download nvm-setup.zip from the list of available options and follow through a regular. Installing NVM on Windows Now before you install NVM, be sure to uninstall any existing installation of Node from your system to avoid complications during installation. If you haven’t seen NVM (Node Version Manager) in action, go and install it now. Just as the name implies, nvm manages our Node version.
